EU Tyre Labelling
Last November a new piece of legislation came into force which required tyres sold in Europe to come with a set of EU Tyre Labels.
Although this has now been in force for a number of months many motorists may still not be aware of the labelling system or what it means to them.
In the simplest terms, tyres are now graded according to their performance. The grading system is from A to G with A being the best. The tyres are graded based on their performance in 3 areas: fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise.
The labelling system may look familiar as it is based on the system used for rating homes, fridges and other electrical goods.
This system will help motorists compare tyres more easily. They will be able to see which tyres consume less fuel and balance this with safety and external noise factors allowing them to make an informed choice.
Why has this been introduced?
The EU hope to impove road safety and make shopping for tyres easier and more cost effective for consumers, as well as reducing the impact that tyres have on the environment.
Will it affect me?
This legislation will affect anyone involved in tyres from the manufacturres all the way through to the consumer. As a retailer of tyres a customer can expect that we will have all the information they need about the grade of all the tyres we sell. Motorists will have access to more information making it easier to compare tyres and make a decision about the what is best product for them.
Are all tyres included?
No. Racing, professional off road, spare, vintage, re-tread, motorbike or studded tyres will not be labelled.
What do the ratings mean?
What grade of tyres do Glews stock?
