Newly Qualified Technician at Glews
Glews are delighted to announce that apprentice Matthew Appleyard has qualified as a motor mechanic by passing his NVQ level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance.
Matthew who lives in Eastrington, joined Glews at 16 after finishing at Howden School. He has spent the last 3 years working alongside other technicians at Glews and attending York College 1 day a week to study for his qualification.
Matthew said " I started by working alongside a Master Tech at Glews watching what he did, after a year I was able to start doing a few of my own jobs, now I am taking on more complicated work on my own. I do everything from a straightforward service to diagnostic work and bigger jobs like changing gear boxes and working on engines. "
Matthew's qualification will mean he can take on more serious work in the workshop and he will now start his Manufacturer training to become a Master Technician for Peugeot.
David Giles, Glews' Dealer Principal said " At Glews we believe in investing in young people to give them the opportunity to develop a rewarding and challenging career. Matthew fit right into the team from day one and his hard work and perseverance proves he will be a very good technician. The rest of the team at Glews have shown him a lot of support and encouragement and will continue to do so as he works towards his next goal."
Matthew's love of motors started when he was much younger and he got into motocross, a passion he still has to this day. He spends his spare time visiting tracks in Yorkshire with his Dad and fixing up bikes in his garage.
