New identity for Glews
Glews, the Goole-based Vauxhall and Peugeot dealership, has unveiled a smart new image that brings the various arms of the business together and reinforces its commitment to top quality customer service.
With instantly recognisable branding and a comprehensive, user friendly website – www.glews.co.uk - due to be launched tomorrow (Tuesday 27 April), this new, shared identity is just one element of recent efforts to refocus the business. Whilst care has been taken to build on its glowing reputation as a long-established, family-run firm, the main aim is to ensure that Glews continues to move with the times and remains a leader in its field. These exciting developments are being overseen by Joseph Richardson, Director, who, in recent years, has taken over the day-to-day running of the business from his father, Tim Richardson
Joseph (32), who joined the family business in 2004, explained: “The various elements of the business have evolved over a number of years, and we felt that the time was right to bring them together under one single corporate identity. We see the new branding and website as key to letting our customers know that they will receive the same top quality service that they have come to expect from Glews when visiting any one of our sites. The strap line that appears alongside our new logo – ‘motoring made easy’ – perfectly sums up our approach as good customer service is central to everything we do.
“In addition to the new website and identity, customers visiting the Glews site in Goole will also notice a number of improvements to the way we operate. We are amalgamating our after sales care teams, as well as creating a new MOT test and valet centre that will offer Class IV, Class V (light), Class VII and motorbike MOTs. We have also created one used car and one new car department across the business, rather than running the Vauxhall and Peugeot dealerships as separate entities.
“As a family firm, we have earned a great reputation for quality, reliable customer service, and this is reflected by the fact that customers return to us time and time again. These changes are about re-focusing the business to further enhance and develop the range of services that we provide to our customers, both now and in the future.”
The company was first established in 1892 by Joseph’s great, great grandfather, also called Joseph, and started life as a coal distribution business. The coal business traded up until 1990, when three generations of the family – Joseph, his father, Tim, and grandfather, David – carried out their final coal delivery round.
The family originally bought the Glews site on Rawcliffe Road, Goole in 1978 as a base from which to maintain its fleet of coal lorries. However, the focus gradually switched from coal to cars and, over a 25-year period, Tim Richardson grew the business into the thriving motor, fuel and convenience retailer that it has become today. Glews was initially a Talbot franchise, but became a Vauxhall franchise in 1983, adding the Peugeot dealership in 1990.
In recent years, the Richardsons have added two service stations on the East Coast to their growing portfolio – Primrose Valley Service Station and Filey Service Station. Both operate under the JET fuel and SPAR convenience store brands. In total, the company employs 84 people.
